The Backstory
This 1978 BMW R60/7 is the kind of bike that doesn’t just get ridden—it gets remembered. With timeless lines, unmistakable boxer charm, and a history of reliable miles, this airhead has been tastefully refreshed and is ready to keep carving down the road for decades to come.
About 2,000 miles ago, the cylinders were bored one size over, giving the engine a fresh lease on life. Everything’s been thoroughly gone through—valves adjusted, seals checked, and the carbs were meticulously tuned to run clean and crisp. The electronics have been refreshed and modernized where needed, while staying true to the bike’s classic character. A brand new battery ensures easy starts, and the spokes are properly tensioned and trued for smooth, confident handling. From the throttle to the taillight, this bike is dialed.
The current owner has had the bike for the past 8 years, using it regularly as a semi-daily commuter here in the Pacific Northwest. It’s been a reliable companion, splitting time between spirited weekend rides and weekday runs to work. Recently, they approached us about helping them pass this machine on to its next caretaker, as they’re upgrading to a slightly bigger custom BMW that we’re building for them here at the shop. They’re making space, but not without a little heartbreak—it’s that kind of bike.
This R60/7 is perfect for someone who appreciates the analog purity of an airhead, wants a bike that’s been cared for with intention, and is ready for another season—or a lifetime—of riding. Whether you’re looking to jump into the vintage BMW world or add a rock-solid classic to your collection, this one is worth a serious look.
Come see it in person. Hear it run. You’ll know if it’s the right one.
